Built: 1880, designed by Bindon Blood Stoney, the engineer behind the construction of the North Bull Wall.
The lighthouse and the wall itself were built to improve the channel into Dublin Port by controlling silting — a significant maritime engineering challenge in the 19th century.
Material: Wrought iron painted green, marking the starboard (right) side of the channel for ships entering the port — with the corresponding red Poolbeg Lighthouse on the opposite (south) side of the harbour entrance.
Height: About 15 m (subject to water level).
The tower sits on massive concrete block foundations, originally cast and placed using a floating crane.
